HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College cross country teams both finished fourth on Friday at the Montana Invitational in Missoula, Montana. 

"There were definitely positives on both the men's and women's sides with multiple personal records on a difficult course, which was fun to see," Saints coach Shannon Flynn said. 

The women finished with a score of 80. 

Reghan Worley led the Saints women, finishing in 10th overall, eighth among scorers, in a time of 18:49.80 in the 5K. 

Trailing her was teammate Elly Machado, who ran a time of 19:48.20, to place 19th overall, 14th among scorers. 

Kendyl Pierson was nearby, finishing in 21st overall, 16th among qualified runners, in a time of 19:51.20. 

Katelyn McKay (20:29.30, 25th overall) and Natalie Yocum (20:50.80, 29th overall) rounded out the team score for the Saints. 

Also finishing for Carroll were Peyton Lipp (21:34.50), Taylor Leistiko (22:03.70) and Hannah Johnson (23:43). 

"Overall the team result was not quite what we were hoping for, but I'm optimistic we'll be able to use this race as a learning experience for moving forward," Flynn said.

The men as a team finished in fourth, scoring 88 with their places. Their top five times added up to 2:20:43.90, an average of 28:08.80. 

Spencer Swaim ran a 27:12.30 to finish 20th overall, 12th among scoring runners, to lead the Carroll College men. 

Jesse McMurtrey was close behind, finishing in 22nd, 14th among scorers, in a time of 27:14.80. 

Noah Majerus was the third Carroll runner to come across the line, finishing in a time of 27:43.30, to put him 27th overall, 16th among qualified runners. 

John Cooney came in next for the Saints, placing 38th overall, 22nd among qualified runners, in a time of 28:25.20. 

Joe O'Sullivan followed him in a time of 30:07.70, placing 44th overall, 24th among team placers. 

Then it was Alex Olmes, who ran a time of 30:59.90, to place 46th overall, 25th among qualified runners. 

Anthony Langton rounded out the men's race for Carroll, finishing in a time of 35:19.70. 

"Our goal is to be at our best and fastest in November, and we really haven't had a race yet where it came together for each person, so I'm hopeful we can stay hungry and keep growing towards that," Flynn said.

The Saints' next race is the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Meet in Logan, Utah on Oct. 11.
