HELENA, Mont. --
Hannah Dean and
Christine Denny combined for 35 points, but the Fighting Saints shot just 36 percent from the field, falling on Thursday to No. 17 Rocky Mountain College 58-54.
Carroll (14-5, 6-2 Frontier Conference) had its chances late, but even when Rocky turned the ball over, the Saints couldn't knock down the shots they needed. Trailing late in the game, the Saints looked to the three-point line, but hit just 4-of-16 deep balls on the night.
The Saints kept it close throughout, but couldn't find a way to get on top of Rocky.
Dean finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Denny added 17 points and six rebounds.
Rocky's Kloie Thatcher led all scorers with 26 points, hitting 9-of-12 shots, including 6-of-7 from the three-point line.
Carroll had plenty of chances, putting up 63 shot attempts to RMC's 49 -- with a large chunk of those coming from inside the paint -- but the Saints couldn't find the touch on Thursday.
Carroll is now 1-1 against Rocky, as both games were played in Billings. The regular season finale will be played in Helena Feb. 23.
The Saints play back in the PE Center against Lewis-Clark State next Thursday.
