WALLA WALLA, Wash. --
Lizzie Sheldon recorded a hat trick, including the game-winner in double overtime to give the Carroll College Saints soccer team a 3-2 win over Whitman College, their first win of the 2018 season.
Sheldon started the scoring on the day and ended it. She got the Saints on the board in the 19th minute after rebounding a shot and slipping her follow-up under the crossbar for a goal.
Whitman responded in the 38th minute when Sofia Ellington put a header in the back off the net.
With the the score tied 1-1 at half, Whitman struck first in the second. Kristin Brady scored in the 59th minute after an assist from Ellington.
The Saints trailed until the 81st minute when Sheldon recovered a loose ball from the goalkeeper and finished to once again tie the game, 2-2.
In the second overtime, Sheldon again scored off a rebound, placing her shot in the back right of the net.
Carroll (1-4) is right back in action on Sunday against Whitworth University, slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.
