Saints Softball Picks Up Two Wins At Bubble Invite

MINOT, N.D. - The Carroll College bats came alive and the Saints topped a pair of NCAA DII teams in Minot State 10-6 and Minnesota Crookston 8-2 Saturday at the bubble invites at Minot State.

The Saints showed that they were there to play early in the first inning when they racked up five runs in the first inning against the Beavers. Ashley Davis picked up a walk in a bases-loaded situation to walk-in Anna ApRoberts, in the next at-bat, Tianna Sell doubled to left center to score Allison Bayer and Allison Williams.

In the next at-bat, Brittany Smith grounded out to shortstop to score Davis and Sell scored on an error.

The Saints added two more runs in the third when Jaylin Kenney singled to left center to score Smith and Kendall Mooney.

The lead was 7-0, but Minot didn't go away. The Beavers added three in the third and two in the fourth before Carroll responded in a big way in the fifth.

Kenney again singled to score Sell a few batters later, ApRoberts doubled to right to score Kenney and put Carroll up 10-5. Minot added a run in the fifth, but it was too little too late for a comeback, and the Williams closed the game with three strikeouts in the final two innings, including the last out.

The Saints racked up 13 hits. Kenney and Bayer notched three each. Kenney had a game-high four RBIs and Sell added two.

Williams had her toughest outing of the short season with 14 hits and six earned runs but still struck out nine while walking two and allowing 14 hits. She is now 3-1 on the year.

In the second game, Carroll picked a run in the first when Natalie Gaber singled to score ApRoberts. The Saints added another in the second on a Brittany Hogan groundout which scored Mooney.

Crookston knotted the game in the top of the fifth, but the Saints responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth.

William singled to center to score Aproberts, Gaber the doubled to score TJ Rucker and Williams. Brooke Yarnell got on base, and Mooney tripled to right center to score Gaber and Yarnell. Mooney then found her own way home on a wild pitch.

The Saints picked up double plays in the sixth and the seventh to close out the game.

Eaton moves to 3-0 on the season with the win. She allowed nine hits, but just two runs in the complete game win.

Seven Saints tallied hits and Gaber, and Mooney led with a pair each. Gaber also had a game-high three RBIs.

Carroll is now 6-3 on the year and will complete the weekend with games against the same opponents Sunday, although the games will be in reverse order.

Carroll plays Crookston at 11 a.m. and Minot at 1 p.m.
