No. 3 Carroll too much for Alberta-Augustana

HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 3 Carroll College Saints recorded 32 assists and Match Burnham scored a game-high 34 points en route to a 120-64 victory against University of Alberta-Augustana on Sunday in the PE Center.

The Saints used their size and athleticism to a great effect against the smaller Vikings, scoring at an efficient clip, creating numerous turnovers and limiting their own mistakes.

"We really didn't pressure up too much," Saints coach Kurt Paulson said. "We were trying to play a solid team defense."

The Saints built a 62-32 lead by halftime.

Burnham scored his 34 points on 13-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, and added eight rebounds and three steals.

Matt Wyman played a very efficient offensive game, too, scoring 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting.

"They were just so much more athletic and taller than what Augustana had at those positions, so they exploited them," Paulson said of Wyman and Burnham. "It's good to see them playing freely and shooting the ball with confidence."

The Saints shot 66 percent from the field, 56 percent from the three-point line and 74 percent from the field.

Carroll forced Augustana into 26 turnovers.

Dane Warp finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, and added seven rebounds and five blocks.

Five Saints scored in double figures, while nine Saints played and scored in the game.

The game on Sunday wrapped up a whirlwind weekend for the Saints. Carroll played two games in Calgary, Alberta, against the top college team in Canada. They arrived back in Helena at 4 a.m. on Saturday, and then turned around to play a matinee on Sunday.

Michael Stasuik led the Vikings with 13 points.

The Saints travel to Lethbridge to play the Pronghorns on Dec. 16.

Notes: Match Burnham needed six points to set a new career high in scoring…  The Saints are off this next week as they take final exams… The Saints have not lost a game in the PE Center this season… Ife Kalejaiye did not play as he works his way back from an injury.
