HELENA, Mont. -- After Corban rallied to tie the game at two, the Carroll College Saints men's soccer team conjured the resolve to gut out a 3-2 win over the No. 2-seeded Warriors in overtime on Wednesday evening in Springfield, Oregon.
No. 7-seeded Carroll College used an 18-yard blast from
Nick Lowrimore to secure the golden goal victory. It was Lowrimore's second score of the evening.
The Saints came back after conceding a goal to Corban's Levan Zhividze in the eighth minute.
Carroll's leading goal scorer,
Jose Porras, granted the Saints the equalizer in the 39th minute when he finished a penalty kick.
Lowrimore tallied his first goal of the day in the 46th minute, taking a cross from
Paolo Georgiades to beat the keeper and give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
Carroll held that lead until the 88th minute when Kohl Hurtado netted a PK to even the score.
Then, it was Lowrimore's OT strike that sent the Saints to the semifinals.
Corban was the No. 16-ranked team in the NAIA entering the tournament. The Warriors had previously beaten Carroll 4-0.
Carroll will take on No. 14 Southern Oregon on Thursday at 8 p.m. MST.
