MISSOULA, Mont. – The Carroll College softball team dropped both games of an exhibition doubleheader to the University of Montana Wednesday afternoon, losing the first game 11-0 before dropping a nail-biter 3-2 in the second game.
The first game was close early, Montana scored one run in the first and added three more in the third, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Griz ran away with it, scoring seven runs to earn the run-rule win over the Saints.
Carroll only managed two hits in the first game.
Anna ApRoberts and
Allison Bayer each tallied a hit for the Saints.
In game two, Montana scored a run in the second and two in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead into the final inning, but Carroll would not go quietly.
After
Allison Williams was walked to open the inning,
Ashley Davis homered to left-center to cut the Montana run to one. The Saints couldn't muster enough offense, and the Griz held on for the one-run win.
The Saints close out the regular-season with seven games over three days beginning Friday and Saturday against No. 15 Corban before playing three games Sunday against the University of British Columbia.
