KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Carroll College softball split with No. 25 Oregon Tech Monday at Klamath Falls, dropping the first game 9-7 before winning the second game 6-1.
Carroll racked up 17 hits but stranded 10 players. The Saints took a four-run lead in the top of the first, but OIt countered with two runs in the bottom of the first and four runs in the third to take a 6-4 lead.
The Saints cut the lead to 6-5 in the top of the sixth, but OIT added three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.
Carroll scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough to overcome the deficit.
In the second game, the Saints finally got back to the defensive prowess that has defined the season to date but was missing in the first three games of the series.
Courtney Schroeder pitched a one-run complete game to earn the win, and the Saints offense met the challenge.
Carroll scored in the second inning, but OIT answered with a home run to tie it up in the bottom of the inning.
The Saints responded with five runs in the top of the third, including a three-run home run from
Kendall Mooney.
Neither team scored the rest of the way, and the Saints would close out the 6-1 win. The split gives Carroll an 11-12 record on the year and a 7-8record in the Cascade Conference. Oregon Tech is now 24-8 on the year.
The Saints return home from the longest trip of the year and are right back on the road, this time to Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington for a doubleheader Friday and Saturday.
