Fourth Quarter Run Propels Saints to Win Over UGF

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's basketball team rode a big fourth quarter and a huge performance from Cassidy Hashley to earn a 78-72 come from behind win over the University of Great Falls Friday night at the PE Center.

The win is the fifth in six games for Carroll and completes the season sweep of UGF.

The Saints won every game against UGF this season but all three games hard-fought affairs. The Argos jumped out to a 7-0 run before the Saints answered with a 7-0 run of their own. Undeterred, the Argos went on a 15-5 run to take a 22-12 lead with 1:11 left in the first quarter but a three-pointer from Sara Chalich in the final second cut the deficit to 22-15 at the quarter.

UGF kept the Saints at arm's length for the first half of the second quarter, holding on to a 34-24 lead with 5:39 remaining in the second quarter before Carroll put together a 7-0 run to cut it the lead to 34-31. UGF held on to a 39-34 left at the half.

Carroll took a brief, 43-41 lead in the third quarter on a pair free throws from Bailey Pasta but UGF battled back to take a 56-52 lead after three quarters.

After trading leads, Hashley hit a bucket with 3:06 left to put the Saints up 65-64, Carroll wouldn't trail again.

Great Falls fouled hit shots late, but Carroll went 6-6 from the free-throw line in the final 20 seconds to stave off a comeback and earn the six-point win.

The Saints were 23-55 (41.8) from the field and 27-36 (75 percent) from the free throw line. Hashley notched 25 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Dean tallied 18 points and seven rebounds. Sara Chalich came off the bench to score 14 points, and Bailey Pasta added 12 points and six assists.

The Saints gave up just 10 turnovers and tallied 14 assists.

UGF was 25-60 (41.7 percent) from the field. Whitney George had a team-high 19 points, Nneka Nnadi tallied 11 and Darah Huertas-Vining had 12, including six in the final minute of the game.

The Saints are now 18-9 overall and 8-7 in Frontier play. The sit a half-game ahead of Montana Tech for the fourth spot in the Frontier standings with three games left on the docket.

Carroll hosts No. 15 MSU-Northern Saturday at the PE Center for senior night. The Saints will honor Baylee Watson and Julie Caputo between the men's and women's game.
