WEST COVINA, Calif. – The Carroll College softball team open the season with a win but the lack of outdoor practice caught up to the Fighting Saints, and they closed the first day of the season with a pair of losses to go 1-2 on the first day of the So Cal Classic in Southern California.
Carroll went opened the season with an 8-0, six-inning win over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) Thursday at the So Cal Classic in Southern California.

Allison Bayer and Ashley Daivs all tallied two RBIs, and
Tess Eaton allowed just three hits in a complete-game shutout to earn the victory.
Carroll tallied nine hits, and 15 players went to the plate for the Saints.
The Saints scored a pair of runs in the first inning with a Bayer single that scored Cloud and
Tianna Sell.
Neither team scored until the fourth inning when Carroll went on a two-out rally to score three runs.
The Saints added another three in the sixth inning. Davis doubled to score
Jadeen Sakauye and Lillian Larson before
Megan Gipe singled to drive in
Allison Williams for the walk off, run-rule win.
Carroll's second game didn't go as well. Marymount opened the scoring with five runs in the second inning before adding a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth. The Saints needed four runs in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the run rule and extend the game.
The Saints earned a single run, but it would not be enough and Carroll fell 11-1.
In the night cap, Carroll led 3-0 early and went up 5-2 in the top of the third, but Vanguard answered with seven runs in the third and six in the fourth to go ahead 15-5 heading to the top of the fifth.
The Saints notched a single run but it wouldn't be enough to avoid the run rule, and the Saints fell 15-6.
Cloud finished the day with a team-high three RBIs.
The Saints were scheduled to play a pair of games Friday, but those games were canceled due to expected inclement weather. No contingency plans have been finalized to make up those games.
