Carroll Women Cruise to 78-56 Victory Over Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. – Hannah Dean had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and all 11 players that suited up for Carroll College scored as the Saints rolled to a 78-56 road win over NCAA DIII opponent Whitworth Saturday evening.

Carroll led wire-to-wire, building an 11-2 early lead. Dean hit a layup with four seconds left in the quarter to give Carroll a 19-9 lead into the second frame.

The Saints extended the lead to as many as 16 in the second quarter, but Whitworth cut the lead to 12 with 48 seconds remaining before  Jaidyn Lyman buried a jumper at the buzzer to extend the lead to 38-24 at the break.

Carroll shot even better as a team in the second half and led 61-41 at the end of the third quarter.

The Saints extended the lead to 75-47 with 5:11 left in the game. Whitworth closed the game on an 8-2 run, but it was too little too late, and the Saints rolled to the 22-point win.

"The Kids battled hard tonight and what a big-time team performance," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "All 11 players scored, and all played over 10 minutes. I was pleased with the way our team responded to what they watched and learned in film this morning. We had great ball movement and shared it well, 17 assists on 33 made field goals is a big step in the right direction."

The Saints were efficient on offense, hitting 33-68 (48.5 percent) from the field and 10-24 (48.5 percent) from the three-point line.

Dean scored her 14 points on 7-8 (87.5 percent) shooting from the field.  She also had 12 rebounds, her season high, to lead the Saints to a dominant, 41-25 rebounding advantage.  Taylor Salonen and Bailey Pasta added 11 points each.

Whitworth was 20-49 (40.8 percent) from the field. Madison Moffat scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Pirates, and Alli Kieckbusch added 11.

Pasta's performance, combined with 13 points in yesterday's loss with Whitman, earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team. She was completing her first week at the shooting guard position where she moved from the point guard that she had played her entire career.

"Bailey had a great weekend," Sayers said. "She is playing with a lot of confidence and poise. We have asked her to move positions in her senior year, and she has not only accepted the move but is thriving in her new role. She is taking care of the ball and shooting the best percentage she has ever shot."

The Saints are now 6-3 on the year and have a week off before traveling to Hawaii to play Menlo College and Saint Xavier on Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 in Waikiki, Hawaii.
