HAVRE, Mont. – Carroll College women's basketball had a strong defensive performance, but couldn't find consistency on the offensive end as MSU-Northern maintained an early lead and earned a 53-42 win over the Saints Saturday evening at the Armory in Havre.
Carroll went up 4-0 to start the game, but the Skylights rallied and took a 15-12 lead after the first quarter. MSUN kept the pressure on and extended the lead to 25-16 with 40 seconds to play in the half before Jaidyn Lyman hit a bucket to cut the lead to 25-18 at the break.
Carroll cut the lead to 38-33 early in the fourth quarter, but that is as close as they would come and Skylights earned the 53-42 win.
Carroll struggled from the field, hitting 18-54 (33.3 percent), including 2-16 (12.5 percent) from the three-point line. Carroll took care of the ball with only nine turnovers, and also edged MSUN 32-28 on the boards.
Hannah Dean led the Saints with 12 points. Three Skylights were in double figures, led by Brandy Lambourne with 14. Northern didn't get a single point from its bench.
The Saints next travel to play at the University of Providence Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m.
