ASHLAND, Ore. – Carroll College men's soccer had a chance to make the conference tournament, but they would need to pick up a win over conference-leading Southern Oregon to do so.
The Saints did everything in their power, sending the game into overtime but lost on a golden goal with four ticks left on the clock in the first overtime.
The match started off rough for the Saints. SOU got on the board just 50 seconds in with a 12-yard shot from the right side of the goal.
Carroll equalized early in the second half with a 24-yard strike from
Riley Prescott in the 55th minute. The tie would hold through regulation.
SOU outshot Carroll 12-11 in regulation, but in overtime, it would be all SOU. The Raiders notched four shots in the first OT to none for Carroll. The dagger came through the crowd after a free kick. Mitchell Pinney found the net from 23-yards out as the countdown came over the loudspeaker.
SOU claimed the Cascade Conference regular-season crown with the victory. The loss ends the season for the Saints who finished 7-9 overall and 5-8 in Cascade play.
