Saints Volleyball Comes Back to Top LCSC 3-2

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Carroll College women's volleyball team overcame a 2-0 set deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Lewis-Clark State 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-13 Friday night in Lewiston, Idaho.

Rayna Pilgeram notched her third triple-double in four matches to lead the way for the Saints with 11 kills, 32 assists and 26 digs and Taelyr Krantz tallied a match-high 18 kills to pace the Carroll attack. Ayla Carpenter notched 27 digs.

After defeating No. 14 Montana Tech Thursday evening in Butte, the Saints appeared to have a bit of a hangover and dropped the first two sets 26-24 and 25-22 before they began their rally.

In the third set, the two teams were tied 9-9 before the Saints went on an 8-3 run to take control. Lewis-Clark cut the lead to 21-18 before the Saints closed the set with a 4-0 run to win 25-18.

In the fourth set, LCSC started on a 7-1 run before Carroll began chipping away. The Saints cut the lead to 12-11 before another run from LCSC built the lead to 16-11.

Carroll then went on a run of its own. Catherine Sloan served eight-straight points, and Carroll went from down five to up four, 20-16. The Warriors had another run in them, rattling off five-straight to take a 23-22 lead before the Saints closed the set with three-straight.

The fifth set was back and forth with both teams claiming leads. The Saints closed with two straight points to take the 15-13 win and the match.

"It was a really-really ugly match for us, but we scratched and clawed for every point," head coach Moe Boyle said. "We never had the momentum. We would get on a great run and then let them back in, and then they would get on a big run, and they let us back in. We are very fortunate to be coming home with the win, but it's two road wins, and the character of this team has come out this weekend. Different people have stepped up each night, and we have made the best to the start of the second half of conference play."

The Saints have now won three straight and move to 5-3 in Frontier play with three of their last four matches and the Frontier Conference tournament at home, beginning with MSU-Northern on Friday, Oct. 27 at the PE Center.
