HELENA, Mont. – Eastern Oregon scored in just the third minute and help on to win 1-0 over Carroll College in Men's soccer action Thursday at Nelson Stadium.
The Saints made and early mistake and Eastern Oregon capitalized on it. An EOU player drove to the right of the goal and sent a shot in that was collected by a Carroll player in front of the net. A clearing shot went right to an EOU defender who was 15-yards out. He chipped the ball right over the Carroll goalkeeper to earn the 1-0 lead.
"A glaring error sticks with you all game and we should have been able to eradicate that," Mello said. "We haven't rewarded ourselves. It's been a weird week. We fight pretty hard but we just don't' get the results we need."
The two teams battled the rest of the game, Carroll outshot the Mountaineers 15-11, including 11-6 in the second half.
The Saints also saw a strong performance from goalkeeper
Bernhardt Di Cino after his early mistake. He made three saves on the day, including a pair of big time saves in the second half.
It wouldn't be enough however as the Saints couldn't muster a goal.
Carroll falls to 3-5 on the season, including a 1-2 Cascade Conference record.
The Saints will be back in action Friday at Nelson Stadium at 2 p.m. against Warner Pacific.
