Carroll Women Shutout NCU 1-0

EUGENE, Ore. – Jamie Carter notched her third-consecutive shutout and Michaela Kueffler scored a second-half lone goal to lift the Saints to a 1-0 road win over Northwest Christian Friday to start the Cascade Conference slate.

The first half was a defensive grind match. Carroll limited NCU to just three shots but tallied just two of their own.

In the second half, the Saints went on the attack. Carroll tallied 11 shots and earned five corner kick opportunities.

The pressure paid off early when freshman Taryn Neameyer sent a cross to the waiting Michaela Kueffler who buried it into the back of the net from five-yards out to put the Saints up 1-0 in the 52nd minute. It would be the only goal of the game and it would be all the Saints needed as the Carroll defense held firm.

"Michaela scored a great goal in the 52nd minute after Neameyer turned her defender and dribble the end line before finding Mic's run," head coach David Thorvilson said. "The second half saw us step up our pressure and take over the game after and even first half. It was warm today, around 86 degrees, and playing on turf took us a little while to find our energy."

NCU managed just two shots in the second half, neither of which were on frame and the Saints took the road win 1-0.

The Saints are now 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in Cascade play. They continue the road trip tomorrow against Corban at 5 p.m. MDT.
