Carroll Volleyball Wins Home Opener 3-1 Over Evergreen

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's volleyball team toppled Evergreen State 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18 to move to 4-1 on the season. It was the second time the Saints defeated the Geoducks in less than a week.

Carroll won despite notching a season-low hitting percentage of .106, which included 34 hitting errors. The Saints were led by Brielle Bumgarner with 16 kills, she has led the Saints in every match this season. Holly Morehouse was second with 11 kills for a .364 percentage and Mallory Arbizzani tallied seven kills with a stellar .500 percentage.

Jonni Dorr notch a match-high 26 assists and Natalie Kassa tallied 12 digs to lead the Saint.

Despite the struggles hitting head coach Moe Boyle is excited to move to 4-1 on the year.

"That was a win. That's what we call that," Boyle said. "We had 51 errors between hitters and servers, and they scored 78 points. When we have control over our match like that, and we make that many errors and still win, I think the future's bright. It's just frustrating. But I think we're just not comfortable yet."

The future will not take long to arrive Carroll takes on two top-25 teams Friday at the Butte Civic Center in the first day of the Big Sky Challenge tournament.

The Saints take on No. 8 Eastern Oregon at 12 p.m. before playing No. 20 Concordia (Neb.) at 5 p.m.

"I know we played last weekend, but we're not comfortable in our rotations yet. But we've got four matches to get better -- and it's a nice place to start," Boyle said.
