OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Carroll College volleyball moved to 2-0 with a tightly contested 25-13, 27-29, 26-24, 25-23 win over Evergreen Thursday on the road in Olympia.
The Saints came out firing and won the first set 25-13 without a single hitting error but the errorless play would not continue for the rest of the match.
Carroll gave up 14 service errors and 16 hitting errors for the rest of the match, losing set two 27-29 before closing out the match with a 26-24 win in set three and a 25-23 win in set four.
"We got the win and that is what matters," Boyle said. "We are not playing up to our potential and I don't know if we have a lineup that we are comfortable with yet. We have a tremendous amount of depth but we haven't been able to capitalize on it yet.
"We had a lot of errors and a lot missed serves. Our errors gave them a whole set worth of points. We had nine aces but that is overshadowed by all the errors," Boyle added. "There was never comfort on the floor after the first set and is showed in the points.
Boyle is still searching for players to step up and take the lead.
"We need to find leadership in each rotation and we haven't found that yet. It is important to find that chemistry in each rotation and if nobody is leading on a certain rotation it makes that chemistry hard to come by."
The Saints had players that stuck out in Thursday's match.
"
Paige Montgomery played great both on the attack and on the block," Boyle said. "
Holly Morehouse had a great match
Brielle Bumgarner has shown big improvement from year one to year two."
The Saints also had some big plays in the backcourt.
"Defensively
Ayla Carpenter is playing great for a freshman to go with some great hitting and
Natalie Kassa led us in digs again," Boyle said.
The Saints close out the road swing tomorrow with a pair of matches in Portland against Warner Pacific at 1 p.m. and a neutral site match against the Corban University at 3 p.m.
