Carroll Women's Soccer Advances to Championship Match

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Carroll College women's soccer team advanced to Monday's Cascade Conference championship match after earning a 0-0 draw with Rocky Mountain and winning a shootout 4-2.

It is the second-consecutive match to go to a shootout for the Saints. Carroll, the top-ranked team in the tournament had the same outcome in its quarterfinal game against the College of Idaho Friday.

The Saints outshot Rocky 14-6 but only four attempts were on goal and Rocky placed only two shots on frame.

A heavy downpour limited both teams in their offensive production and after 110 minutes of soccer it was still scoreless.

The Saints missed their first one but didn't miss afterward. Rocky missed on their second and third as Carroll advanced. Natalie Johnston, Payton Netz, Christina Plank and Talya Vaira all made PKs for the Saints.

It was a completely different story than the first time the two teams met. Carroll dominated the match en route to a 4-0 win.

Carroll now waits until Monday to play the championship match against Northwest. The two teams registered a scoreless draw in their meeting in Kirkland earlier this season, a game that was also played in difficult weather.

Monday's game will be played at 1 p.m. MST. The weather is forecasted to be mid-sixties and sunny.

Live video and stats will be available via the Cascade Conference Stretch Internet portal.
