LAS VEGAS – Mikaela Olson buried a 3-pointer with 38 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime where Carroll College earned a 59-52 win over Xavier University of Louisiana Saturday at the Las Vegas Shootout played at Durango High School in Las Vegas.
The Saints also had an amazing 63 total rebounds, led by
Cassidy Hashley with 22 and Hannah dean with 20. Hashley scored a game-high 19 points and Dean had 11.
"I am so proud of our team," head coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "We are down three players, down three points with under a minute to go. I ask who's going to make the shot to go to OT and
Mikaela Olson says, 'I am,' and then nails it! Cass and Hannah were unbelievable on the boards. I have never seen two kids on the same team get 20 rebounds each. That is what we call, relentless effort. We have one more to go this weekend and it's not going to be easy but this was a huge win."
Both teams struggled from the field. Carroll was 15-55 (27.3 percent) from the field while Xavier was 22-79 (27.8 percent).
Xavier took a 16-12 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 26-20 at the break but Carroll outscored the Golden Nuggets 18-11 in the third to take a 38-37 to enter the fourth.
Xavier held a 46-43 lead in the final minute, setting up Olson's heroics to send it into overtime.
Carroll opened overtime with an 8-0 run en route to the 59-52 win.
The Saints are now 5-0 on the year and will face Northwest Christian tomorrow in the final game of the Las Vegs Shootout. Live stats will be available via Dakstats.
