HELENA, Mont. – The fifth-ranked Carroll College women's basketball team suffered a disappointing setback against in a 67-64 loss against the University of Great Falls. The Saints are back into the grind this week to face Montana Western on the road Thursday and Rocky Mountain Saturday at the PE Center.
Despite the setback, the Saints have wins against two top-ten teams and a 13-2 record. Both losses came in the second games of conference back-to-backs.
The Siants are No. 1 team in the nation in defensive rebounds and second in rebound margin. They are also tanked eighth in total defense.
Cassidy Hashley leads the Saints with 13.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The sophomore is coming off of a career-high 29 points in the loss to the Argos.
Katie Estey is second on the team with 11.3 points per game. Her game-high 21 points were key in the Saints victory over then No. 2 MSU-Northern at the Armory on Friday.
Carroll cruised to a 68-40 win over the Bulldogs on Dec. 9, and the Bulldogs have struggled, losing six of their last eight games. UMW isn't without talent, Montana transfer Molly Klinker leads the Bulldogs with 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Two other Bulldogs average double figures.
Western ranks No. 4 in the country in offensive rebounds and eighth in 3-pointers made.
Rocky Mountain is 3-1 in conference play but lost three-straight during Christmas break, including a 77-42 drumming against Lewis-Clark. The Bears rebounded with a 84-74 win again Montana Tech Saturday.
The Bears take care of the ball, they are ranked fourth in turnover margin and fifth in assist to turnover ratio. RMC was ranked until the most recent NAIA Poll where they dropped out.
Whittney Mitchell leads the Bears at 14.27 points per game. Tenika Capouch is scond with 13.87 PPG and leads the Bears with 13.9 RPG. Destiny Amezquita tallied 12.6 Points per game for the Bears.
The Saints and Bulldogs tip off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Dillon. Carroll and Rocky are scheduled to play at 5:30 Saturday at the PE Center.
