LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Carroll College men's soccer team defeated Eastern Oregon 2-1 in overtime to move to 2-1-1 in Cascade Conference play and 4-3-1 overall.
Jose Porras scored his seventh goal of the season in the 93rd minute on an assist from
Terry Cox to end the match on the golden goal and give the Saints the win.
Cox dribble the ball across the field and sent it back across and found Porras who toe punched the ball into the net for the game-winner.
Porras was injured in Friday's match at Warner Pacific. Head coach
Doug Mello mixed up his position to get him into the game and hopefully limit his movement.
"He was sore after yesterday's match and the bus ride," Mello said. "We moved him into the center-mid to save some energy and he responded well to the change with the goal."
The Mounties took the lead in the 28th minute on a penalty kick goal from Osvaldo Martinez. Carroll goalkeeper
Conor Smith made saves on PKs in each of the last two games but his streak came to an end Saturday.
The Saints equalized with a goal in the 73rd minute by
Isaac Bostrom, his second of the weekend, assisted by
Sam Malouf and Porras.
"Their only goal was on a PK which is frustrating but our guys stayed the course," Mello said. "We took care of business, got the equalizer and eventually the win."
The Saints end the weekend with a win and a draw on the first-ever Cascade road trip and Mello is pleased with the outcome.
"We're happy to come out of the road trip with a win and a tie," Mello said. "We spent a lot of time in a bus this weekend but this win makes the trip home a lot easier. We are excited to be back home and ready for some great games at home."
The Saints host the College of Idaho on Friday, Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the first of six home matches.
