HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's soccer team faces Warner Pacific Friday and Eastern Oregon Saturday in the first Cascade Conference road ever.
The Saints (3-3, 1-1 CCC) are looking to rebound after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Cascade favorite Corban last Sunday in Helena. The Saints had early opportunities in that game that they didn't capitalize on and head coach
Doug Mello is looking for his team to finish better around the goal.
"We are at a juncture that we can get into a more consistent level of playing. We've been all over the board," Mello said. "We have the talent level but we need to get better at closing out goals and matches."
Mello thinks that the Saints can learn a lesson from the now 14th-ranked Warriors.
"We need to reward ourselves," Mello said. "Corban knows how to win and we need to get to that level. It is more than skill and scheme we have to have the attitude that we are going to win."
Warner Pacific brings a 3-4 record into the match and opened Cascade play with a 1-1 weekend.
"Warner pacific is having a decent season," Mello said. "They have a good goalkeeper and a strong scorer in Cesar Esquivel. It should be a great test. They have played a few good teams and have won some games. It should be a battle."
The Saints turn right around to face Eastern Oregon Saturday after a 260-mile bus ride after Friday's match.
The Mounties are 2-2 in their first year as a program but have some talented young players and 12 transfers on the team.
"Eastern is young but they have potential to be very good," Mello said. "They are in a similar situation to what we were in last year but they have some talented players that will challenge us."
The Saints and Knights take the pitch in Portland at 1 p.m. PST Friday and Carroll faces EOU at 2 p.m. PST Saturday.
