Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | by Carroll Sports Information

Carroll volleyball Sweeps Two

HASTINGS, Neb. – Carroll College Volleyball swept Concordia (Neb.) 25-23, 31-29, 25-22 and Peru (Neb.) 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 to close out the weekend with three straight sweeps and move to 6-7 on the season.

"I am really excited because we won in three on both matches, that is nine straight games for us," head coach Moe Boyle said. "We've been down in every one of those games and came back to get the win. We had the composure on the court to stay calm. It wasn't the case before this weekend."

The Saints ended the weekend 3-1 with the lone loss coming in a four-set loss to No.  4 Midland. The 0-4 weekend at The Master's Tournament a week ago seems like a distant memory after three–straight wins.

"It is really nice to be in the position that we are in right now," Boyle said. "The way that they feel on the court is significantly different than it was a week ago. We've matured a ton as a team over the last 10 days."

Boyle is excited about the way her defense is playing and getting balls up to the setters.

"Maddie Fey, Natalie Kassa, and Becca Sweeney all played very well this weekend," Boyle said. "Jonni Dorr and Rayna Pilgeram have set our offense extremely well but a big difference this weekend was that they were getting clean balls to set to our hitters."

Several hitters also played their best matches of the season. Paige Montgomery made the move from middle to outside and played really well.

"Paige found her groove at the outside hitter position near the end of the Concordia match and provided a nice spark in blocking," Boyle said. "She got a lot of touches on the ball and helped out our defense a lot."

Holly Morehouse also had a big weekend for the Saints.

"Holly had an awesome tournament," Boyle said.  "She had some resounding kills, great blocking and a lot of touches, like Paige, she slowed the ball down for the defense."

The most exciting thing for Boyle is that the Saints still have a lot of room to improve.

"If we continue to play like this we can continue to improve," Boyle said. "We have the opportunity to be a very good team this year especially if the confidence continues to build."

The Saints open Frontier Conference Play Thursday when they host the University of Great Falls at 7 p.m. at the PE Center.
