Hashley's Double-Double Paces the Saints to 70-62 Win

LAS VEGAS – The No. 24 ranked Carroll College women's basketball team defeated Menlo College (Calif.) 70-62 in the second day of action from the Frontier Las Vegas Shootout at Durango High School in Las Vegas. 

Cassidy Hashley recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Saints.  Hannah Dean came off the bench to score 11 points and Katie Estey had 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Menlo jumped out to an early 15-8 lead with 3:28 remaining in 1st quarter.  Then, trailing 19-16 with 7:42 left in the first half, the Saints would break out with a 10-0 run to take a 26-19 advantage. The Oaks finally answered with a bucket from Alyssa Gable but the Saints would close the hald on 7-2 run to take a 33-23 lead into the break.

Carroll dominated in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Oaks 22-15, and increasing their lead to 55-38 heading into the fourth but Menlo would battle back in the final frame.

The Oaks chipped away during the quarter, cutting the Saints lead to 58-51 with 3:34 remaining in the game.  Before Hashley hit a buck and Brittney Johnson buried a  key three pointer with 2:25 left to put th Saints up 63-51. Hannah Dean's tallied four points and block in the final minutes to help put the game out of reach and give Carroll the 70-62 win.

"The girls did a great job of establishing our inside game early" head coach Rachelle Sayers said.  "Cassidy had a really great night in the boards, which is something we have really challenged her to do. Menlo was a really aggressive team and caused us some trouble with their pressure and their athleticism but I'm proud of the kids, they stayed with it when Menlo made runs."

The Saints take the court one final time in Las Vegas against fifth-ranked Westmont College.  Westmont is also 2-0 in the tournament, defeating 11th ranked Great Falls 66-45 on Saturday. 

Tip off between the Saints and the Warriors is at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
