Saints' Season Comes to Close with 3-0 loss to Evergreen

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Carroll College men's soccer team fell 3-0 Wednesday to Evergreen State in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference tournament to close out the Saints season.

Evergreen outshot the Saints 11-6 in the first half but the Saints and Geoducks ended the first half with scoreless tie. Evergreen continued the onslaught in the second half and finally found pay dirt in the 54th minute on a goal from Charlie Kramer.

The Geoducks followed that up with back-to-back goals that came just 27 seconds apart in the 72nd minute. Willie Spurr connected on the first of his two goal  on an assist from Kevin Elliott-McCrea. Just 27 seconds later, Spurr would again find the back of the net to put the Geoducks up 3-0 and ended the Carroll season.

Evergreen outshot Carroll 22-13 including 11-4 in shots on goal. Carroll goalkeeper Conor Smith tallied eight saves to close out his Carroll career.

The Saints close out the season with an 11-6-2 record overall and a 8-3-2 record in Cascade Conference play.

As a second-year program, the Saints defied expectation, nearly doubling the win total from a season ago and winning moving from no conference wins to eight. The Saints also moved up to the top 50 in Modified RPI.

Carroll graduates just one senior in smith but the bulk of the roster returns in 2015 along with higher expectations and aspirations.
