Saints Cruise over Mount Royal 75-35

HELENA, Mont. – Five Saints scored in double figures and Carroll held Mount Royal to just 14 field goals en route to a 75-35 Carroll women's basketball win over Mount Royal University (Alberta) Sunday afternoon at the PE Center.

Baylee Watson, Cassidy Hashley, Kacie McKeon, Hannah Dean and Brooke Jones all scored in double-digits led by Jones with a game-high 13 points. The Saints shot an incredible 32-of-60 from the field (53 percent), including 19-of-31 in the first half (61 perent), and outscored the Cougars 36-14 in the Paint.

Dean led the Saints with six rebounds to lead the Saints to a 29-16 advantage on the glass Mount Royal tallied just one offensive rebound all game.

Thirteen different Saints saw action with only Katie Estey and Hashley breaking the 20-minute mark. Hashley played 21 minutes and Estey 22.

"Obviously you want to play well at home and we were hopeful we would be able to get lots of people in and get quality minutes and we did that," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "We also have some goals in mind defensively. MSU Northern and Montana Tech scored a lot of points against Mount Royal but also gave up over 60 points each. We wanted to make stand on defense I thought we did a better job handling the pressure. MRU does some nice things and run some nice stuff I thought our kids adjusted well."

The Saints offense was clicking on all cylinders, the majority of the scoring was inside but Carroll also connected on six 3-pointers.

"I like that we have an inside-out attack we don't have one person teams can key on," Sayers said. "We have a solid point guard in Estey, she can keep us in control and takes care of the ball. We aren't worried when people press or changing offenses and defenses because she knows what to do."

The game was the last at the PE Center until the Dec. 3, Frontier Conference opener against Montana Tech. The Saints have a grueling road schedule with trips to Washington, Oregon, Las Vegas and Arizona on the horizon. Sayers hopes the tough schedule will prepare the Saints for a rigorous conference slate.

"We have some tough road games in Montana and Gonzaga, then we have three-straight in Vegas and three-straight in Portland, then two in Phoenix," Sayers said. "We have to be ready, we have five back-to-backs in conference. We had that in mind when we scheduled these games and hopefully we come out with some wins and some lessons on how to play on the road."

The Saints next travel to Missoula on Nov. 4 for an exhibition game against Montana before traveling to Spokane to face Gonzaga on Nov. 6.
