HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College men's soccer teams hosts the first two of six consecutive home matches Friday and Saturday as the Saints host the College of Idaho and No. 15 Rocky Mountain.
The Saints takes on the Yotes at 1:30 p.m., Friday and the Bears at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Nelson Stadium.
The two teams bring in a solid record into the weekend and will challenge the Saints. Carroll is 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Cascade play after going 1-0-1 on the road last weekend. The Saints earned a draw at Warner Pacific and beat Eastern Oregon 2-1 in Overtime.
The Yotes are 5-1 and 4-1 in Cascade Conference play with the lone loss coming from Rocky Mountain.
The Bears are 9-0 and 5-0 in Cascade play.
"The two teams have a combined record of 14-1 and Rocky is in the top 20," head coach
Doug Mello said. "It is going to be a tough weekend but it will be a I think It is a challenge that we are up to."
C of I is 5-1 on the season but have yet to play a match on the road.
"When you start your season with so many games at home it is hard to make the adjustment to road games," Mello said. "We hope that will be a factor into the match. Our defense is playing really well and that will be a big plus for us."
The potent Yote offense scored 26 goals in the first six games but was shut out against Rocky Mountain.
Rocky brings in an undefeated record into the weekend and in the last two matches scored a combined 26 goals.
Carroll has a little extra motivation for Rocky Mountain after losing to the Bears on a phantom handball call in the box in the Frontier Conference Tournament that led to a game winning penalty kick.
"Our guys should have a bitter taste in their mouth after losing in OT on a PK last time we faced them," Mello said. "That said, they have a great team and we have to be ready to play the best soccer of the year."
It will be the first match for the Carroll and Rocky under the new Cascade Conference affiliation.
Saturday's match will be youth soccer day, any youth soccer player wearing their jersey will be given free admission. Children younger than high school age should be accompanied by an adult.
