Carroll College entered play at the inaugural Big Sky Challenge wanting to test itself against the very best the NAIA had to offer. The Saints got their shot at some of those squads over the two-day affair, splitting again on Saturday with a morning sweep of Dickinson State before falling in a nip-and-tuck battle with No. 1 UT Brownsville, 3-1.
The win was Carroll's seventh of the year, but it didn't come without a bit of drama. Leading 23-16 in the opening game, Carroll gave hope to Dickinson by giving up six straight points to turn a sure win into a one-point lead. The Saints, though, got a handle on their unforced errors and closed it out, winning 25-23. The next two sets went relatively easy for the home team, going into the books as wins of 25-14 and 25-11.
