Carroll Volleyball swept by No. 1 Rocky

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College volleyball team was swept by top-ranked Rocky Mountain in a hard-fought senior night match Friday evening.

The Saints fell 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 in the final regular season match of the year for Carroll.

Kathleen Mulligan had a team-high 10 kills to lead the Carroll attack and Madeleine Fry had 15 digs for the Saints and Rebecca Sweeney added 13. Jonni Dorr had 23 assists and Emily Burk added 16.

The Saints led the first set 23-21 before the Bears rallied to score four-straight points and earn the first-set win.

The Bears jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the second set and although the Saints rallied to cut the lead to 16-14, they couldn't get over the hump and Rocky took a 2-0 lead.

Again in the third set the Bears took an early lead but Carroll pushed them to the end.

"I am really proud of our team," head coach Moe Boyle said. "I think the difference between them and us is that they expect to win and they are used to winning. You could see it at the end of the first set. We started to tighten up right when they were getting loose and getting into a rhythm. "

Ahlea Billis led the Bears with 20 kills and Yang Yang who added 10 of her own. Rocky Mountain has only lost two sets in Frontier Conference play.

Carroll now prepares for the conference tournament in Butte next weekend. The Saints have secured the third seed behind Rocky and Lewis-Clark State but their first-round opponent hasn't been determined yet.
