Saints volleyball sweeps Tech

BUTTE, Mont. - Carroll College volleyball rode strong defense to a three-set sweep of Montana Tech for its third consecutive victory Thursday evening at Kelvin Sampson Court.

The Saints held the Orediggers to a .167 hitting percentage and tallied 49 digs on the match.

"It was a great team effort to come into Butte and get the sweep," head coach Moe Boyle said. "The team had great composure and we served very well."

Carroll started the match with a dominant win 25-15 win in the first set. The Saints hit .379 while holding Montana Tech to .167.

The Saints won the first game easily, but the second set was a battle. Carroll came out on top 26-24. Tech had their best set but the Saints had 15 kills to Tech's 15 and Carroll had a .333 hitting percentage.

In the fourth set, the Carroll defense again stepped up the pressure to hold the Orediggers to a .080 hitting percentage en route to a 25-21 match closing win.

Kathleen Mulligan led the Saints with 11 kills and had an individual hitting percentage of .385.

"Kathleen had a great night offensively," Boyle said. "She has played tremendously over the past three matches."

Another bright spot was Holly Morehouse who had two individual blocks and two block assists.

"Holly was a wall in the third set," Boyle said. "Their hitters didn't know how to respond and to what she was doing and she really created havoc in their attack."

The Saints play their final road match of the season Saturday at Lewis-Clark State College before returning home to host No. 1 Rocky Mountain for Senior day on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
