Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Saints rally to top Argos 3-2

HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College volleyball team looked to be on their last legs. The University of Great Falls dominated the first two sets of Thursday night's match and owned the momentum going into the third.

Carroll head Coach Moe Boyle knew something had to be done and it would have to be drastic.

"We completely changed our lineup after the second game," Boyle said. "We went back to the lineup we started the season with. We needed something that we had been successful with, something that was familiar."

The lineup makeover paid big dividends. After tallying a 0.000 hitting percentage in the second set, the Saints exploded with a  .368 hitting percentage in the third set and a .415 hitting percentage in the fourth.

"We talked to the girls about building momentum point to point and sometimes we, as coaches, disrupt that with subs," Boyle said.  "Tonight we found the right mix of players and let the momentum build."

Carroll won the third set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-22 to force a fifth set.

The Saints and Argos battled point for point in the fifth set. UGF held a 10-9 lead in the final before the Saints went on a 6-2 run to earn the victory 15-12.

Kathleen Mulligan led the Saints with 15 kills, Sarah Roshak earned 13 kills and Calli Prestwood added 11. Jonni Dorr led Carroll with 30 assists and Rebecca Sweeney had a team-high 22 digs.

The Saints will look to build on the momentum when they face MSU-Northern at 6 p.m. Saturday at the PE Center
