Crisp passing and a grind-it-out mentality earned the Carroll College women's soccer team its third consecutive win Saturday, 3-1 over visiting Mount Royal. The two evenly matched teams battled back and forth throughout, with a Kristyn Bohlander goal -- a sixth-minute marker assisted by Cassidy Hammons -- the only score of the first half.
The second half of play was more of the same, with many of the opening minutes spent in the middle of the Nelson Stadium field. Eventually, though, Carroll broke free. With a long feed to Kayla Bayer, behind the only defender in sight, she lofted an angled shot over the keeper and into the far corner. The perfectly placed shot made it a 2-0 lead for the Saints, but the visitors would answer.
"Yeah, she kind of tucked the ball back in toward the middle of play and caught the keeper not quite off her line, but not ready for a shot from that distance," coach Dave Thorvilson said.
