HELENA, Mont. - College Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced the 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Teams, selected by members of College Sports Communicators. Four Carroll student-athletes have been selected as Academic All-District team members for the 2025 season.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. This spring's quartet of Fighting Saints added to a growing list of CSC Academic All-District selections are:
Rueben Hornby (Kalispell, Mont. / JR / )
Josh Smalley (Missoula, Mont. / SR)
Zack Gacnik (Conifer, Colo. / JR)
Madalen Shipman (Dillon, Mont. / SR)
All four of the Carroll Academic All-District selections were key contributors to their respective teams this spring. Not only were each recognized as an All-Conference honoree, all four were
both Frontier Conference Champions and NAIA All-Americans.
Hornby, a Biochemistry major, was the Frontier Conference Champion in the Men's Javelin prior to placing second in the nation last month at the NAIA National Championship with a throw of 201'-6".
Smalley, a Civil Engineering major, was the Frontier Conference Champion with a 5.00m personal best in the Men's Pole Vault. The senior put a bow on an outstanding career with sixth-place honors at the NAIA National Championships, jumping 4.75m.
Gacnik, a Computer Science major, had one of the most impressive single year performances in school history. He won multiple Cross Country events last Fall, including the Frontier Conference individual title. He was named an All-American at the 2024 NAIA Cross Country Championships, and became the first Fighting Saint since 2022 to earn multiple All-American honors in the same season earlier this spring at the NAIA Indoor T&F Championships with a fifth-place finish in the 5000m.
Shipman, a Business: Management & Marketing major, was far and away the most impressive female Fighting Saint in '24-'25. Much akin to Gacnik, she earned multiple All-American honors with a third-place finish in the NAIA Indoor T&F 600m final and a fifth-place finish in the 800m at the NAIA Outdoor Championship last month. A tremendous all-around competitor, Shipman was also the Frontier Conference Champion in the 1500m.
The CSC Academic All-America® program is one of the highest honors in college sport, recognizing the best of the best across each sport, and separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
All four Carroll student-athletes have been selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 9, 2025.
The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
