Helena, Mont. – Fighting Saints Track & Field finished the regular season with a stellar day at home at the Trudnowski Open.
In the Frontier Conference Decathlon Championships, Tucker Monaco took 1st place. Monaco set a personal record and moved up to 4th in the NAIA. The meet should solidify his spot in the NAIA National Outdoor Championships at the end of May. In the Heptathlon Championships, Sorren Reese took 2nd, Katelyn Christensen took 3rd, and Gabby Domenici took 5th.
Weston Means advanced his High Jump mark for the season, achieving the NAIA A Standard. He set a personal record and won the event for the men. The jump moves him into a tie for 2nd on the Carroll Top 10 lists.
Two new National Qualifiers were added at the meet. Josh Smalley had a great day in the Pole Vault, winning the event. With a personal best, he jumped the NAIA A Standard and also moved into 2nd on Carroll's All-Time list. The Men's 4x800m Relay team of Zack Gacnik, Peter Rehberger, Marco Gonzalez-Sosa, and Brycen Gardner ran the NAIA B Standard in the event. The effort moved the group into 4th on Carroll's Top 10 list.
Including Monaco, Means, and Smalley, Carroll's men won 12 events (Carter White - 200m, Kaiden Romney - 400m, Zack Gacnik - 1500m, Archie LaFurge - 110m Hurdles, 4x400m Relay, 4x 800m Relay, Cormac Benn - Long Jump, Tim Sellars - Shot Put, and Reuben Hornby - Javelin). The Saints women won 9 events (Madalen Shipman - 800m, Rylee Herbstritt - 400m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay, 4x800m Relay, Callie Kaiser - High Jump, Chloe Gallagher - Pole Vault, Sophie Loveless - Triple Jump, and Taliana Miller - Javelin).
Multiple Saints set personal records at the meet beyond Monaco, Means, and Smalley. In the throws, Beau Meyer, Abigail McBeain, and Crisha Polk set lifetime bests in the Discus. Lauren Tuss set a personal best in the Shot Put and Hunter Gum in the Javelin. For distance events, Luke Decker and Nicole Morgen ran their fastest times ever in the 1500m, as did Shipman in the 800m and Ben Wallace in the 5000m. Shipman's 800 moved her to 8th All-Time at Carroll in the event.

The Fighting Saints will head into the post-season with the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend in Butte, Mont. The meet will take place on Sunday May 5 and Monday May 6 at Charlie Merrifield Track at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
