Pocatello, Idaho – Carroll College Track & Field notched another strong day at the Stacy Dragila Invite on Saturday January 28.
On the men's side, the Saints added a National Qualifier with Josh Smalley hitting the B Standard in the Pole Vault. He joins three other men's qualifiers who also performed well in Pocatello. Garrett Kocab, who met the B Standard again this weekend, looks poised for a breakthrough. Brett Glaser - already qualified in the Heptathlon - ran a personal record in the 60m Hurdles and narrowly missed finals. Tate Kauffman jumped the B Standard in the Triple Jump last week and won the event in Pocatello. Another highlight of the meet was a duo of distance runners - Zach Rector and Connor O'Hara - running personal records in the 5000m.
For the women, two individuals qualified for Nationals. Reghan Worley ran her fastest indoor 5000m ever to achieve Carroll's first A Standard of the season. Natalie Yocum ran a personal record for an open 800m to hit the B Standard. In other positives Sophie Loveless jumped consistently for another week in a row in the Triple Jump, Madde Boles neared the qualifying standard in the High Jump, and London Lambrecht ran a lifetime best in the 800m.
"It was great to see a few more National Qualifiers plus several other athletes inching closer to qualifying," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "We can see the improvements and focus of many of the athletes even if it hasn't led to a personal record for every one of them quite yet," he added. "We're looking forward to a few weeks of practice so we can be ready for a strong finish in Bozeman for the end of Indoor."
A portion of the Saints squad will race at the Whitworth Invitational at the Podium in Spokane, Wash. on February 10-11. The full team will head back to work for the next few weeks before capping off the regular season at the Big Sky Tuner in Bozeman, Mont. on February 17.
