Women's Track and Field | 05/06/22 | 1:48 PM
Helena, Mont. – Saints Track & Field will travel to the Tom Gage Invitational in Missoula, Mont. this Saturday for a competitive end of season event.
University of Montana, Montana State University, Eastern Washington University, Lewis Clark State College, Rocky Mountain College, Montana Tech, Montana Western, University of Providence, and Northern Montana College will all have athletes at the meet. Carroll will send 37 competitors. Many individuals have either qualified for Nationals or are on the brink of qualification.
The middle distance events are particularly stacked with 33 entries in the Women's 1500m, 21 in the Men's 1500m, 27 in the Women's 800m, and 39 in the Men's 800m. Carroll has four athletes that have run within a few seconds of the NAIA B Standard in the events including
Elly Machado (1500m),
Natalie Yocum (800m),
Van Gottwals (800m), and
Jonah Fisher (800m). Moving to the longer distances,
Reghan Worley barely missed in the 5000m last week and will give the race another shot this weekend on fresh legs against a stellar field.
Chad Hemsley (400 Hurdles),
Shamrock Campbell (Triple Jump),
Garrett Kocab (Shot Put), and
Nikki Krueger (Discus) will look to improve their National B Standards to A Standards, freeing up space for more teammates to qualify for Nationals. Only three athletes or relay teams with the B standard on each side – men's and women's – can compete at the NAIA Outdoor Championships.
Other Saints in the sprints and field events will also be on the hunt for bettering their times and marks in the last meet of the season and potentially nabbing a qualifying mark. On the women's side this includes
Kailen Herbstritt (Pole Vault),
Chloe Gallagher (Pole Vault),
Paige Baxstresser (400m), and
Madde Boles (High Jump). On the men's side it includes
Josh Malone (Pole Vault),
Broder Thurston (400m), Cole Truman (Javelin), and the Men's 4x400m Relay.
"This is a great group and we're excited about strong competition late in the season after so much work has been put in," said Head Coach
Harry Clark. "We're predicting solid performances from all of our athletes including those who are wrapping up their seasons and those right on the edge of qualifying for Nationals."
Field events will begin at 10:45 am Mountain Time and running events at 11:00 am. The first Saints competitors will start at noon.
