Saints compete at NAIA Outdoor Championships this week

Gulf Shores, Ala. – Carroll Track & Field will compete at the NAIA Outdoor Championships on May 25-27 at Gulf Shores Athletic Complex.
 
Between the men's and women's squads, 13 athletes are traveling to Gulf Shores to compete in a broad range of events covering throwing, jumping, and running.
 
On Wednesday, Lee Walburn and Brett Glaser will dive into the first half of the Decathlon. Day 1 includes the 100m, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, and the 400m. Walburn is currently ranked 1st in the NAIA and Glaser is ranked 9th. Chad Hemsley will race in the preliminaries of the 400m Hurdles later in the day. The winner of each heat and the next 4 fastest times will advance to Friday's final. The Women's 4x800m Relay Team (Kate Picanco, Elly Machado, Reghan Worley, and Natalie Yocum) will also compete in an evening prelim. The top 2 in each heat and the next 2 fastest times will advance to Thursday's final. Andria Mourich is slated to substitute for Worley in the final.
 
Thursday morning boasts the conclusion of the Decathlon for Walburn and Glaser. Day 2 is comprised of the 110m Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, and the 1500m. In the afternoon, Nikki Krueger will throw Shot Put and Garrett Kocab will throw Discus. Krueger ranks 4th in the list of competitors, and Kocab ranks 9th. In the evening, Van Gottwals will race in the prelim of the 800m, and Reghan Worley will compete in the opening round of the 5000m. For the 800, the top 2 in each heat and the next 2 fastest times will advance, and for the 5000 the top 6 in each heat and the next 4 fastest times move on. Both finals would be on Friday.
 
Friday afternoon, Shamrock Campbell will Triple Jump and Madde Boles will High Jump. Boles is currently tied for the 6th highest clearance in the competitor list.
 
"This meet is what we build towards and work hard for over the course of the entire year," said Head Coach Harry Clark. "It's exciting to be in such a great atmosphere with high level competition, and we know it's going to bring out the best in our athletes."
 
Wednesday's Decathlon kicks off the meet at 9:00 am MDT.
