Helena, Mont. – Carroll Track & Field will compete in the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday in Great Falls, Mont.
The Saints will be up against Montana Tech, Montana Western, University of Providence, Rocky Mountain College, and Northern Montana College. Last year Carroll won both the Men's and Women's team events in the first championship since the 1970s.
Twenty events will be contested on each side over the two-day meet, and 65 Saints will be part of the competition. Six places will score in each individual event: 10 points for 1
st, 8 points for 2
nd, 6 points for 3
rd, 4 points for 4
th, 2 points for 5
th, and 1 point for 6
th.
Scores for the 3000m Steeplechase, Decathlon, and Heptathlon have already been recorded bringing the event total to 22. Riley Navarro placed 3
rd in the Men's Steeplechase and
Andria Mourich placed 3
rd in the Women's Steeple.
Lee Walburn won the Decathlon and
Brett Glaser placed 2
nd. All four athletes earn All-Conference status, an award garnered for placing in the Top 3 in an event at Conference.
The Saints will continue to aim for national qualifying marks as well. In particular Carroll still hopes to add athletes who have competed at Nationals before such as
Josh Malone and
Madde Boles in the High Jump and
Chloe Gallagher in the Pole Vault. Currently there are five women and four men qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships.
"It was fun to add a Conference Championship Meet last year so we are glad for it to be back again this spring," said Head Coach
Harry Clark. "It is a great opportunity for everyone to contribute to the team and will be the final event of the season for many of our athletes."
Tuesday's meet will include the 4x800m Relay and 10,000m, and it will begin at noon Mountain Time. Field events will start at 10:00 am Wednesday and running events at 11:00 am.
