HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's and Women's Golf teams unexpectedly kicked-off the opening round of the Frontier Conference Golf Championship today at Banbury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho.

Even with the course covered in a dusting of snow to start the day, tournament officials made the decision to start championship play today in place of scheduled practice rounds, due to the looming threat of inclement weather in the coming days. Conditions were less than ideal, with rain spitting down for a portion of the round, and a nagging breeze present the whole afternoon.

The Saints Women, looking for a repeat of their 2021 Frontier Championship (338) sit in third place after round 1, trailing Montana Tech (332) and Rocky Mountain College (323), while the Carroll Men currently stand 4th (332) behind Providence 329 Montana Tech (299) and Rocky (296).

Junior Katie Fagg fired an impressive opening round 78 to lead the way for the Saints Women, leaving her in solo 2nd place on the individual side. Senior Caroline Hobson, and Freshman Ellie Thiel turned in scores of 83 and 84, respectively to back Fagg's performance and keep the Saints in contention.

On the Men's side of the event, Senior linkster Samuel Berry once again paced the Saints, carding a 6-over par 77 which leaves him sitting in a tie for 6th place after day 1. Senior Josh Neth shot 83, and Freshman Riley Stansberry opened with an 85 to round out the top performances of the day. 

Both teams will look to climb the leaderboard, and keep an eye on the radar tomorrow where, weather permitting, round 2 will start at 1:30 pm from Banbury Golf Course.
