Dillon, Mont. – Carroll College Cross Country opened its season at the Conference Preview with wins for both the women and men.
All six Frontier Conference schools competed at least a portion of their teams on the calm, cool Monday morning at Beaverhead Golf Club. The Saints women narrowly edged Montana Tech (Carroll – 35, Tech – 40). The men won by a larger margin, also followed by Montana Tech (Carroll – 37, Tech – 56).
For the Carroll women, four athletes placed in the top 10 including
Reghan Worley (3
rd - 19:22.3),
Natalie Yocum (7
th - 20:03.8),
Andria Mourich (8
th - 20:15.5), and
Katelyn McKay (10
th - 20:28.0). On the men's side, the Saints claimed three top 10 finishes:
Jonah Fisher notched fifth (28:04.5),
Spencer Swaim sixth (28:13.1), and
Mark Richter eighth (28:21.6).
"I'm very pleased with how our upperclassmen and freshmen meshed together in packs and helped each other," said Saints Coach
Shannon Flynn. "It wasn't a perfect day for anyone and we still competed hard, so it is exciting to think about the possibilities as we continue to work and grow. We have better depth than the past two seasons on both sides, and I believe the energy and commitment we're seeing daily is going to propel us to a great season."
