GULF SHORES, Ala. – The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships start up on Wednesday morning and Carroll will have a total of 15 athletes competing over the next three days.
Competition will begin Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. MST and will continue all the way through Friday evening.
Lee Walburn will kick things off Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. MST with the first half of the decathlon. The second half of the decathlon will take place at the same time on Thursday.
The women's pole vault will take place Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. MST. Carroll will have three athletes competing in
Kelsey Bassett,
Shae Helterbran, and Chloe Gallagher. Bassett earned all-american honors at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships earlier this spring.
Also taking place at 3:30 p.m. MST on Wednesday is the trials for the women's 1500-meter race. Representing the Saints in this event is
Natalie Yocum. The finals of the 1500 are scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. MST.
Wednesday evening at 4:35 p.m. MST,
Chad Hemsley will be competing in the trial round of the 400-meter hurdles. The finals are set for Friday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. MST.
Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. MST, the Saints' 4x800 meter relay team will be competing in the trials. That team consists of
Reghan Worley,
Kate Picanco,
Natalie Yocum, and
Elly Machado.
Mar Sorini will serve as the alternate.
Reghan Worley 'B' qualified in the 5000-meter run, but due to a limit on how many 'B' qualifiers a team can have, she will only be competing in the 4x800. The 4x800 finals are scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:10 p.m. MST.
On Thursday, three Carroll athletes will be partaking in field events.
Josh Malone will compete in the men's high jump at 3:30 p.m. MST,
Garrett Kocab will compete in the men's discus at 4 p.m. MST, and
Nikki Krueger will compete in the women's shot put at 1:30 p.m. MST. Krueger won the national championship in the shot put at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships earlier this spring.
Friday afternoon, two more Saints will compete in field events.
Shamrock Campbell in the men's triple jump at 12:30 p.m. MST and
Madde Boles in the high jump at 1 p.m. MST.
