HELENA, Mont. -- With the first day of the Frontier Conference Track & Field Championship in the books, Carroll is in first place ahead of Rocky Mountain, Montana Tech, Providence, and Montana Western respectively.
As a team, the Saints totaled 64 points on day one and will look to add to it on Friday, which is the second and final day of the meet.
Thursday's action opened with the Women's 4x800 Meter Relay. Carroll's team of
Elly Machado,
Natalie Yocum,
Reghan Worley and
Kate Picanco finished first with a time of 9:30.42. Rocky finished in second with a time of 10:49.93.
In the Men's 4x800 Meter Relay, it was Carroll who took first again in a very close race that came down to the last lap. The Saints' winning team consisted of Van Gottwals, James Normandeau, Jonah Fisher and Kaiden Romney. They posted a time of 7:52.59 which edged out second-place Rocky's mark of 7:54.31. Providence finished in third with a time of 9:08.68.
The Women's 10000 Meter Run was won by Mei-Li Stevens of Rocky with a time of 40:17.63. A trio of Carroll runners (
Katelyn McKay,
Kendyl Pierson and Nicole Morgen) finished behind Stevens to round out the rest of the field.
Carroll's
Spencer Swaim rounded out the day's events with a first place finish in the Men's 10000 Meter Run with a time of 33:35.09. River Shepard of Montana Tech was right there with him until the finish, taking second place.
The remainder of the Frontier Conference Track & Field Championship will take place on Friday, with the action starting at 10 a.m. at Vigilante Stadium.
