Women's Cross Country | 09/23/20 | 6:32 PM
HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College Fighting Saints cross country team hosts the Frontier Conference Rumble.
It's the second race of the season for the Fighting Saints. In the season opener both men's and women's team took first place, while junior men's runner
Spencer Swaim went on to become the Frontier Conference Runner of the Week.
"This week we are focused on finding ways to improve, even if they are small or not something we can measure easily," Saints coach
Shannon Flynn said. "One of our goals is to bring energy and edge to the race. Last race was definitely a start to celebrate, but each race is new and we want to work together to exhibit the fitness and toughness we're continuing to build."
The race will be run at Tenmile Park. Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College, Montana Tech and Montana State-Northern are expected to fill out the field.Â
The Saints will have a chance to see some of their younger runners get their first race under their belts.Â
"We'll run a full roster on the women's side and are excited to see some of our freshman athletes in their first races of the season," Flynn said. "We've set a goal to work as packs again in this race, so I'm looking forward to seeing each of those groups support each other.
"There will be a limited roster on the men's side, but they are a driven group and I still expect them to compete well. Three of the men had their first 8k last race, so I picture them racing with even more confidence this week."
The women's 5K is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m., while the men's race is scheduled for 3:15.Â
Spectators are not permitted to attend the race to comply with COVID-19 social distancing protocols.Â
