An All-State hoopster from Anaconda Central, Buddy Walsh cracked Carroll’s starting line-up early on as a freshman, while helping the Saints to 1956 Montana College Conference runners-up. The 5’11” Walsh averaged in double figures his final three seasons, and led the team in scoring his junior and senior seasons (high of 14.5 point average in 1958), when he was selected second team All-Conference both years.
During that period he was the Saints’ game-high scorer 17 times, posting nine 20-point contests, with a career PR of 30 points in a 74-71 win over Eastern Montana. Buddy’s junior year, he was no. 3 in the MCC in scoring and led the league in free throw shooting, at 80%. His induction article stated that “Buddy Walsh was one of the Saints best-ever all-around guards.”
