Whitehall product Willie McGlynn garnered eight letters with Carroll, four each in football and basketball. A 195 lb. interior lineman, as a freshman he started for the Saints when the gridiron sport was reinstituted on the Hilltop after a 4-year absence, a position he maintained for the remainder of his college career. In 1938, the Helena Daily Independent described Willie as a “tough sophomore tackle” and “showing his teammates a lot of drive.” His senior year was Carroll’s best season, at 5-2. As a guard/forward on the roundball team, McGlynn led the Saints in scoring in at least three games.
