A 5’6” guard from Libby, Sandy Burns played hoops his first three years on the Hilltop, twice earning All-Conference selections – honorable mention in 1962, and first team in 1963. Described as a “crowd pleaser,” his sophomore season, he averaged 9.7 ppg and ranked 10th in the nation in free throw shooting, making 86% from the charity stripe.

A notable performance took place against Westminster, when the scrappy Burns wrestled down 8 rebounds from much taller opponents. As a junior, Sandy poured in a career-high 28 points versus Rocky Mountain College. He finished as the team’s No. 2 scorer with an average of 13.6 points per game, while leading in both field goal and free throw accuracy. “Sandy Burns was one of the best shooters to ever play at Carroll,” according to coach John Frankino.
