Pete Glueckert arrived on Carroll’s campus in the fall of 1975 from Great Falls High, where he’d been an All-State wrestler and football player. A slightly undersized 5’11” 195-pound lineman to begin with, he rode his work ethic and technique as a vehicle to three years on the starting line, and a unique first team All-American selection. After missing most of his freshman season due to a broken ankle, Glueckert bulked up to 210 pounds, and in 1977 he garnered the first of his two All-Conference first team citations at offensive guard.
In 1978, he helped the Saints an undefeated (9-0) regular season and the program’s initial playoff appearance. The Hilltopper’s were ranked No. 2 in the nation – a first for the Frontier Conference – averaging 463 total yards and 36 points scored, No. 2 and 3 respectively, in the NAIA D-II. Among Glueckert’s honors were “Homecoming King,” All-District 12, and first team NAIA All-American. “Probably the quickest player off the ball that we’ve got, Bert’s 85% grades as one of our top blockers, game in and game out,” according to O-line coach John Kowalski. Glueckert later served as a scout for CC.
