A multiple All-Conference grid end from Pocatello, the highlight of his career occurred his sophomore year during Mount Saint Charles shutout over Gonzaga University 21-0. Evans tackled ball carriers for a total of 110 yards lost, and recovered a fumble and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown. Playing right end – but stopping numerous plays roaming both sides of the field, at the line or in the Bulldogs’ backfield – it was reported that in spite of being double teamed, he “either went around or over every attempt to block him,”
Another big game was his 3-touchdown offensive effort versus Montana Normal (Western). In the 1927 All-Conference article, the paper described Evans as “the best end in the state.” The Saints finished at 5-2-1 and were 3-0 vs. MCC opponents. That year he also won his bout at 152 lbs. in St. Charles’ Monogram Club’s boxing exhibition. Evans played basketball for three seasons as well, starting at guard as a soph and junior for the Hilltoppers. His best efforts came in wins over the Utah Aggies and Montana Tech, and a close loss to Montana State.
