Peterson joined an elite fraternity, averaging a double-double, at 14.6 ppg and 10.7 boards per game. He also passed for 51 assists.

Carroll (20-8, 10-2) earned the 1977 Frontier championship, beating Northern 80-78 in O.T. – Peterson poured in 26 counters and speared 14 rebounds – in the league semi’s, and Eastern 81-72 in the chipper. It was the first time since 1954 the Saints claimed both football and basketball crowns in the same year. His last two years, Neil led the Saints in scoring a combined 13 contests, netted 20-plus points 9 times, and produced 12 double-double games. He just missed the magical 20/20 plateau in a 25-point, 19-rebound effort vs. Eastern
